Sharm El-Sheikh

With sunshine and warm waters all year round, Sharm El Sheikh is the closest destination to Europe where you can soak up sun, dive amazing corals reefs, and enjoy the sea any time you need a break from routine.  Sharm El Sheikh is located on the Gulf of Aqaba, about 300 km from Suez and 19 km from Ras Mohammed National Park. 

Inside Sharm, Naama Bay is where the action is to be found whereas the Old Town is where you should head for your daily shopping and souvenirs. If you’re in the market for some serenity Hadaba (near Ras Um Sid) would be your choice, here you’ll find calm hotels and resorts. To explore the Ras Mohammed National Park and Nabq Protectorate, or to go on diving and snorkelling trips head down to the marina or to one of the town’s docking ports.

Climate

The climate is lovely and dry all year long with temperatures ranging between 20° and 25° C in the winter months, whereas in summer the temperatures go up a little reaching highs of 30 to 35° C.

Getting Around

Local blue and white taxis are always available, negotiate a price to your destination before getting in, these taxis are all licensed.

There is also the local blue and white buses, which are cheaper than taxis, but may take a while longer to get to your destination, due to there being no bus stops, they will stop to let people on and off anywhere!

There is also the hotel limousines, these prices will all be fixed and displayed for you before you book.

Language

Arabic is the main language spoken, however due to Sharm el Sheikh being an international destination, most people speak English, aswell as Russian, Italian, French and German

Money

The main currency is the Egyptian Pound (LE).  Hwever all currencies such as sterling, dollars and Euros are also accepted in most shopping areas.

World famous bars and nightclubs, such as Pacha, Space, Hard Rock Cafe and Little Buddha are all in Sharm.

 As well as many local bars, cafes, beaches, desert parties and night clubs.

Soho Square - Hassle free shopping for all souvenirs, jewellery, gifts, leather, shes and clothing.  Best to go in evening time.

Old Market - perfect for your souvenirs and gifts, make sure you barter for the best prices. Best time to go later afternoon and early evening.

Naama bay - Souvenirs and clothing, make sure to barter for best bargains

Hollywood - Clothing, shoes and souvenirs.

Nabq bay - Souvenirs, clothing, shoes, and gifts all available.

Other highlights to see include Soho Square, Naama Bay, Old Market for your best shopping and entertainment away from the hotels.

If yoou are wanting to visit places further Sharm el Sheikh is close to the towns of Dahab and Taba, also St Catherines Monastry  and Mount Sinai or to see even more history then Cairo and Luxor are short flights away.
